Dima
Popav a boy from Russia, who had bilateral cryptorchidism. He had been battling
these struggles right after his birth since. Usually, the testicles descend
into the scrotal bag at 8 months of pregnancy. In cases of Cryptorchidism, the
testicles fail to descend; however, most of the cases are self-corrected within
few months after birth. In case of Dima did not correct by itself. This started
causing worry to his parents. Soon they consulted an urologist in Russia. After
conducting all the investigations, the urologist concluded that Dima needed
surgery to pull down the testicles into the scrotal sac.
Dima
is a happy 8-year-old who loves football, baseball, soccer and basketball.
Before Dima was born, his mom Alena and her husband, Semenov, were told during
a routine prenatal ultrasound that their baby had hydronephrosis, which
means that the area of the kidney where urine is collected is enlarged or
dilated. A few months after birth, an imaging study at a local hospital in
Russia confirmed the diagnosis. Dima had no symptoms after birth but the
hydronephrosis was monitored regularly during the first three years. Alena and Semenov
were told that Dima’s hydronephrosis might improve or resolve on its own, over
time. Unfortunately, it did not.
When
Dima was 5 years old, an urologist in Russia determined that Dima’s
hydronephrosis was caused by a ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. The
ureteropelvic junction is positioned wherein the pelvis of the kidney meets the
ureter. The UPJ obstruction impedes the flow of urine all the way down to the
bladder, causing the urine to back up within the kidney and dilate it
(hydronephrosis). Dima would need a surgery in the near future to treat his UPJ
obstruction and reduce the hydronephrosis.
While
searching on the internet, parents found out about India laparoscopy surgery site.
Semenov posted a query on the website , after which he was contacted by the
case manager, who thereafter assisted the family in everything from deciding
the urology and laparoscopy hospitals in Goa to completing all the paperwork that was essential for
their travel. Dima and his parents finally arrived in India where they were
received by India laparoscopy surgery service team, and they scheduled an
appointment with urologist in Margao Goa.
Alena
and Semenov knew where they wanted to have Dima’s surgery to treat the UPJ
obstruction: Laparoscopic urology
surgery in Goa, at urology and laparoscopy hospitals in Goa in the nation. Alena
and Semenov brought Dima to Goa, where they immediately felt they were in the
best hands. The team made sure Alena and Semenov understood the diagnosis, and
they explained every step of the treatment process.
At 7 years of age, Dima had his surgery at Urology and
laparoscopy hospitals in Goa, a robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty
to improve drainage of urine from the kidney. During the surgery, Alena remembers how attentive Dima’s medical team was. “They always kept
us informed of the progress,” says Alena, which helped her and Semenov feel confident that Dima was in good hands. Dima was discharged within 24 hours after
surgery. He went back to urologist in Margao Goa for a follow-up appointment to remove the uretral stent
that was placed during laparoscopic urology surgery in Goa, and for an ultrasound to assess the
dilation. Dima is very happy with the “wonderful service” his
family —— receives while at. Dima has no other restrictions. He now enjoys his favorite sports,
including baseball, soccer, and basketball and flag football.
